Event Details
Following on from various debates about Coding For Kids on social media and in the media at large, Rewired State and Caper thought it would be a good idea to get some people in a room to discuss it further.
We're hosting an informal barcamp style evening to gauge opinion, inspire some action and build networks around the idea. It's a free participatory event, which anyone can attend. You should come along if you are interested in tech, creativity, learning and skills.
Come with ideas of breakout sessions you want to host – no idea is a bad idea! When you arrive, you’ll be asked to add topics to the great big schedule on the wall (if you so wish), and then you'll need to lead your session at the relevant space and time.
Join in the debate before and after the event on Twitter #codingforkids @codingforkids and be part of the conversation on the wiki: http://codingforkids.org
Structure of the evening
6.00pm: Arrive and add to the wall of breakout sessions
6.30pm:Introduction from Emma @hubmum and Katy @katybeale
6.35pm: Three very short talks from three different viewpoints to kick off the debate:
Dan Appelquist is technology evangelist and strategist at Vodafone Group R&D. He is active in the Web standards community, currently holding an elected post on the W3C’s Technical Architecture Group. @torgo
Kirsten Campbell-Howes is an author, games designer, elearning specialist and organiser of a meetup group for educational games makers. @campbellhowes
Matthew Knight is a technical creative director. He runs the Disposable Memory Project, a global photography experiment, and has just launched a new tech-focussed project collecting the future expectations of children. @webponce
7.00pm: Break out session 1
7.30pm: Break out session 2
8.00pm: Break out session 3
8.30pm: Back together as a group discuss the recurring themes and pledge individual actions
9.00pm: Pub or home
Thank you!
